On June 7th UHC announced that University of Kansas Health System is now in network for Individual and Family Plans as of 6/1/23. KU Med is one of the largest and most trusted hospital networks in Kansas City.
The expansion is significant, as before June the UHC marketplace plans only had St. Luke's and Olathe Medical Center in network. (Interestingly, KU Med acquired Olathe Medical back in January).
KU Health System has a significant number of facilities well distributed across the Kansas side of the KC Metro, so this is an immediate increase of access and options for existing UHC holders.
Those who initially avoided UHC during open enrollment can only make a switch with a qualifying event, such as getting married, divorced, having a baby or adopting a child. People who don't already have a local marketplace plan but are moving into the area, or have workplace coverage and are changing jobs can also use those events to enroll on a plan.
